ED 525
Methods of Computer-Mediated Communication in Education
During my 2019 summer semester at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) I took ED 525, Method of Computer-Mediated Communication in Education. This course provided an introduction to modern electronic communication tools available to incorporate into education. For a better understanding of computer-mediated communication, check out this clip (note: video may be long):
There are two types of computer-mediated communication, synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous refers to communication which occurs in real time. Asynchronous refers to communication that takes place when the parties engaged are not communicating at the same time.
A popular synchronous communication tool used among students and educators is Skype. To learn more about this platform, click below.
A popular asynchronous communication tool used among students and educators is VoiceThread. To learn more about this platform, click below.
Overall, what I have learned in ED 525 has been very informative. I plan to use some of these tools in my own classroom in the near future.
